When considering Ergonomic Practices in the Workplace, there are many forms of seating that you can choose for your home or office workstation. You have your traditional office chairs that can be adjusted to suite your needs which may help alleviate symptoms of back and neck pain. There are also alternative non-traditional chairs such as sit-stand/saddle chairs or a kneeling chair.
These alternatives have not been shown to be better or worse but it has been noted that there are no current guidelines for the design of these chairs. The appeal to using an alternative chair is that they claim to decrease back pain by changing the angle at which the body is positioned. Although this set up may help some, there are many limitations to consider before making a switch.
